1) What should I (and my children) wear to this church?
A.) You will find all kind of dress at the Unitarian Universalist
Church of Roanoke. You will find everything from cut-offs and sandals
to "nice Sunday Clothes". The overall trend is towards informal.
You are welcome to wear "business attire," shorts and sandals, or anything

2) Is there childcare / Sunday School during church?
A.) Our church year is divided into the the Fall/Winter/Spring
season and the Summer season. Childcare/Religious Education is always
provided during the Fall/Winter/Spring season with the exception of a few
"Family Services" which are noted on the services calendar.
Childcare is provided for infants through age 3. "RE" (Religious
Education) is provided for 4 year olds through high school. During the
Summer, the RE program is consolidated into one class for 4-12 year olds

3) If my child doesn't separate well, can s/he stay with me in the service?
A.) Yes, of course. We also provide supplies such as crayons, etc. Click to return to questions.
4) Wheelchair? Hearing? Disabilities?
A.) We are wheelchair friendly and we have a suitable restroom for wheelchair.
We have have a sound system and special hearing devices for those who wish them.
At this time, we do not have large print for our books and bulletins.

A.) Although the congregation is heavily weighted towards white
right now, we search to expand our diversity. Please join us.

A.) Absolutely! Our congregation prides itself on acceptance
of diversity. Please see our seven principles,

A.) Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians, Transsexuals
are welcome. In fact, our congregation is officially designated as
a "Welcoming Congregation" because of our acceptance. Straight and
gay alike, celebrate our interests, our differences, our searches for meaning.

A.) Our diversity is great, and beliefs from (alphabetically):
Agnosticism, Atheism, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism,
and many others are represented. Please add your ideas. Return

A.) Yes. All religious ideas are accepted so long as
they are tempered with tolerance to other people's opinions and to our seven

10) What goes on during the worship services?
A.) While the format can vary considerably, a "typical"
service will include readings, singing, prayer or meditation time, a
time for joys and sorrows to be expressed, and a sermon or talk by the
minister*, a lay person, or an outside authority on a particular
subject. We celebrate the religious holidays of Christianity
(Christmas, Easter), Judaism (High Holy Days, Chanukkah, and Passover),
and the seasonal celebrations of Earth centered religions.
Refreshments and fellowship time follow the
worship service. We'd like to meet you, and hope that you'll drop by
